Study: Packaging-Related CO2 Is Declining

Measures Such As Recycling And Reusable Packaging Are Having An Effect

By 2045, packaging-related CO2 emissions in Germany could be reduced by up to 94 per cent. This is the result of a study conducted by GVM Society for Packaging Market Research and the ifeu Institute for Energy and Environmental Research in Heidelberg on behalf of eight industry associations. The German Packaging Institute (dvi), one of the clients, says that the study sees packaging consumption in Germany at its peak in 2021. In the future, it is expected to decline continuously, whereas the use of recycled materials and recycling rates will increase. The use of lighter packaging and reusable solutions as well as more packaging-saving consumer behaviour are also expected to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, according to the dvi.
