Meet the Start-up: Greenfibra Labs

Greenfibra Labs is a contract and development laboratory of Gmund Papier specialised in creating innovative paper made from plant fibres for use in ecological packaging and sustainable advertising materials. The start-up presents its solutions at CosmeticBusiness 2023 from 14 to 15 June in Munich. We talked to Markus Herbster, Senior International Sales Manager at Greenfibra Labs.

How did you have the idea for your start-up?

We have been working very intensely for many years with alternative materials for paper manufacturing. One example of this is our Gmund Bio Cycle collection, where we replace as much as 50 per cent of the wood pulp with alternatives such as straw or cotton. Another is our Gmund Hemp Paper, made from 100 per cent hemp fibres.

Greenfibre Labs was the logical next step in this development. Here we have created capacity for developing alternative papers made from plant fibres.

What is special about your company and your products?

Our vision: To make brands and products more sustainable by using more natural materials and less plastic. Greenfibra Labs offers its customers everything from fibre research and test productions to complete solutions in one place.

Greenfibra Labs will be at CosmeticBusiness. What motivated you to take part?

We want to demonstrate how "all-in-one fibre material production" for environmentally-friendly communications from a single source can be done.

With our expertise in fibre technology, materials analysis, paper production, ecology, printing and packaging technology, sensory aspects and green communication, we assist our customers throughout the entire development process. If desired, our team of packaging specialists, designers and production managers can transform the new paper we have developed together into shelf-ready packaging, a freshly printed brochure, a sturdy tag or a customised direct mailing.

You can find the start-up Greenfibra Labs in hall 4 F17.
